STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - ColoradoDesk -- Nomadness Rentals, a leading vacation rental management company, is celebrating its 15th anniversary. Founded by Millie Freed, the company has grown from managing a few properties to over 200 in Mammoth Lakes, CA, and Steamboat Springs, CO. Millie Freed shares the story behind Nomadness Rentals and reflects on the lessons learned and the challenges overcome along the way.
A Journey from Sydney to Steamboat Springs
Millie Freed, originally from Sydney, Australia, moved to the United States at 15. After a career in the pharmaceutical industry, she transitioned to managing vacation properties, which eventually led to the founding of Nomadness Rentals. Millie's personal experiences as a property owner inspired her to create a business focused on transparent communication and excellent service.
"I was managing our own properties and was dissatisfied with the local management companies. Their communication was poor, cleaning wasn't up to standard, and I wasn't clear on rental details or payments," said Millie. "That's when I realized I could do a better job and started managing our properties myself. From there, other owners reached out to me, asking if I could manage theirs too. The business grew from that need for better service."

A Customer-Centric Approach
Nomadness Rentals prides itself on clear communication and a personal touch. Millie emphasizes that one of the company's core values is transparency, ensuring that clients are never caught off guard by unexpected charges or unclear policies.
Overcoming Challenges with Curiosity and Boldness
When asked about the challenges faced in the early days of Nomadness Rentals, Millie reflected on the importance of curiosity and persistence. "I tend to ask a lot of questions—sometimes too many," she said with a smile. "But that's how you learn. You can't be afraid to ask questions or face challenges head-on. Even when you're unsure, you have to take that leap of faith. We've grown mostly through word of mouth, which makes me incredibly proud. We don't rely on aggressive marketing. Instead, we focus on providing quality service, and that speaks for itself."
Leading Nomadness Now, CEO Jackie Dobson
As Nomadness Rentals looks toward the future, leadership has passed to Millie's daughter, Jackie Dobson, who now serves as the CEO. Jackie has been instrumental in modernizing the company's operations while staying true to the values her mother established. Jackie's innovative approach and deep understanding of the industry have helped the company maintain its position as a premier vacation rental service in Mammoth Lakes and Steamboat Springs.
