Award-winning documentary photographer Adam Smith pairs his iconic images with an evening of live music featuring Ben Nichols (Lucero), Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars), and Alvin Youngblood Hart
DENVER - ColoradoDesk -- DENVER, CO – For the first time, documentary photographer Adam Smith's acclaimed multimedia event Hellhound on My Trail arrives in Denver on Saturday, August 23 at The Oriental Theater.
The evening pairs Smith's visceral black-and-white photography with live performances from Ben Nichols (Lucero), Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars), and Alvin Youngblood Hart.
Smith's exhibit features rare portraits of R.L. Burnside, Jason Isbell, Marty Stuart, Porter Wagoner, The Black Keys, and others, alongside the haunting backdrops of juke joints, cotton fields, and hill country gatherings. A decades-long documentary on Southern sound and landscape, Smith's work includes 35mm shot, silver gelatin prints in handcrafted frames.

Live music comes from Ben Nichols, the longtime frontman of Lucero, who brings a stripped-down set, showcasing the southern gothic storytelling that runs through his songs.
Joining Nichols is Luther Dickinson, GRAMMY-nominated co-founder of the North Mississippi Allstars. Luther has long championed hill country blues, playing with legends like R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough - both featured heavily in Smith's photography.
Also performing is GRAMMY-winner Alvin Youngblood Hart, known for his versatility and deep roots in country blues.
"This night lets people do something rare," said Smith. "Get lost in the photographs of the deep south then hear the stories behind them—told by the artists who lived it, on both sides of the camera."
Doors for VIP ticket holders open at 6:00 p.m. and general admission ticket holders at 7:00 p.m. for gallery viewing. At 8:00 p.m., the artists take the stage for a collaborative evening of intimate performances and storytelling, reflecting the spirit and imagery captured in Smith's lens.
