DENVER ~ In a recent press release, Governor Jared Polis of Colorado announced a new survey for the state's residents to provide their input on the future of Colorado's workforce and economy. This survey is a result of an Executive Order signed by Governor Polis in May, which directed state agencies to collaborate with the Department of Education in developing recommendations to improve the connection between education and training. The goal is to ensure that more Coloradans have access to the necessary skills for well-paying jobs, while also meeting the talent needs of businesses. The recommendations are due to be submitted to the Governor on December 1.

Governor Polis emphasized the importance of Colorado's workforce in driving the state's economy and expressed his commitment to providing resources and training opportunities for individuals to secure their desired jobs. He stated, "Whether you want to get a four-year degree, pursue an apprenticeship, get a certificate through a community or technical college or find on-the-job training, we want to ensure there is a path for you to succeed in Colorado." The survey aims to gather direct feedback from Coloradans on their opinions about resources that help them build skills and find work, as well as their hopes for the future of Colorado's talent development system. It will be open for responses until November 7.

Under Governor Polis' leadership, Colorado has prioritized education and workforce training initiatives that offer various options for individuals seeking good-paying jobs and career advancement. These include programs like Care Forward Colorado and Career Advance Colorado, which have trained thousands of Coloradans in high-demand fields such as healthcare, construction, law enforcement, and early childhood education. Additionally, Opportunity Now was launched as a means of funding regional partnerships between educational institutions, industry leaders, and employers with a focus on meeting the workforce needs of key industries in Colorado. This program has already awarded $89.5 million to 96 regional partnerships and has helped over 8,200 individuals secure jobs in high-demand, well-paying fields.

The top sectors served by Opportunity Now align with the priorities set by HB22-1350, a bill sponsored by House Speaker Julie McCluskie, Representative Janice Rich, and Senators Jeff Bridges and Paul Lundeen. This legislation established the program and aims to support Colorado's workforce needs in critical industries such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure and construction.
