~ During the 2025 National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Annual Conference last week, the City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services (PRCS) Department was reaccredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). This prestigious recognition reaffirms the department's place among nationally recognized park and recreation agencies.
CAPRA accreditation is a mark of excellence that sets the standard for park and recreation agencies across the country. With less than 3% of agencies achieving this status, the City of Colorado Springs has demonstrated its commitment to providing top-notch parks, programs, and safety practices. This is not the first time PRCS has achieved this distinction, as they were first accredited in 2020. The successful completion of the reaccreditation process further solidifies their dedication to excellence.
Director of PRCS, Britt Haley, expressed her pride in achieving reaccreditation, stating that it is a significant milestone for the department and a testament to their hard work and dedication. She also acknowledged that many people choose to live in Colorado Springs because of its beautiful parks, open spaces, and exceptional recreational opportunities. Haley extended her gratitude to the entire PRCS team for continually delivering excellent service despite challenging demands. She emphasized their commitment to serving the community and ensuring that their amenities remain a cherished part of what makes Colorado Springs a wonderful place to call home.

To achieve CAPRA accreditation, PRCS had to comply with 154 recognized standards and document all policies and procedures ensuring best practices in management and service delivery. This extensive process includes a formal application, self-assessments, a site visit by trained CAPRA evaluators, a written report, and a hearing with the CAPRA commission.
The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department now stands among only 231 accredited agencies nationwide. It joins thirteen other accredited agencies in Colorado, highlighting its leadership in the field.
Following reaccreditation, PRCS is required to maintain its high standards through annual reporting, with the next review scheduled for 2030.
