~ Colorado Springs, CO - Northbound Black Forest Road will be closed between Woodmen Road and Vollmer Road starting Friday, June 21 until the end of July for essential construction work. The closure will allow for the completion of necessary construction in a shorter timeline and with increased safety.
According to Mike Chaves, project manager for the City of Colorado Springs, the closure will not affect southbound traffic as both lanes will remain open during this time. The planned construction includes removing existing pavement and subgrade, as well as rebuilding and repaving the roadway with new curbs, gutters, and medians.
Chaves also stated that multiple detours have been identified to ensure residents and businesses can still access their neighborhoods and establishments safely. Those heading from Woodmen to northbound Black Forest Road can take one of three options: north on Tutt to Cowpoke, then east to Black Forest Road; north on Marksheffel Road to Cowpoke Road, then west to Black Forest Road; or access Black Forest from Research Boulevard.

The project is part of a larger plan to widen the roadway to two lanes in each direction between Woodmen Road and Research Parkway. Funded through the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) "A" List of projects, it is expected to be completed by late 2024.
For more information about the project or to sign up for construction updates via email, individuals can call 800-887-4155 or visit Coloradosprings.gov/BlackForestRd. The project team is grateful for the public's patience during this important phase of construction.
