~ In a meeting with the Colorado Springs City Council today, Mayor Yemi Mobolade addressed the ongoing disparities in the El Paso-Teller County 911 Authority agreement. Alongside Police Chief Adrian Vasquez, police officers, and firefighters, Mayor Mobolade presented a detailed account of the discrepancies within the agreement.
According to Mayor Mobolade, Colorado Springs handles a significant majority of the regional 911 call volume, yet only receives 45% of the funding from the Authority. The mayor emphasized that their first responsibility is to the people of Colorado Springs and they can no longer continue to subsidize the Authority through this agreement.

The decision to address these disparities will not only make the region safer but also put an end to wasteful government spending. Mayor Mobolade stated that Colorado Springs will continue to lead in public safety and will not abandon their regional partners. They will work together through existing relationships such as the Office of Emergency Management and Pikes Peak Mutual Aid Strike Team.
The mayor expressed his hope for City Council's support during their upcoming presentation on August 10th. He believes that by building a stronger, more accountable, and sustainable emergency communications system for the people of Colorado Springs, they can better serve their residents and public safety responders.
