Colorado Springs: Construction on 8th Street starts at Fountain Creek bridge

Trending...
~ Starting Monday, June 9, the eastbound lanes of the Highway 24 Frontage Road will be closed to traffic from northbound 8th Street to the Highway 24 intersections. This closure is expected to last until early 2026. Motorists will be detoured to make a right turn from 8th Street to Highway 24.

In addition, the sidewalk on the east side of the 8th Street bridge and the Midland Trail bridge over Fountain Creek will also be closed starting on June 9. Pedestrians and trail users are advised to use the west side of 8th Street as a detour during this time.

These closures are necessary in order to prepare for the removal of the Midland Trail bridge over Fountain Creek, which is scheduled for the night of June 12. Once this bridge is removed, crews will begin widening the east side of the 8th Street bridge. This will include adding a northbound lane across the bridge and replacing the Midland Trail bridge with an attached multi-use path.

While construction is ongoing, occasional lane shifts and closures should be expected on both sides of the bridge. However, access to local businesses will remain open and clearly marked.

This project aims to address infrastructure and mobility needs on 8th Street between Fountain Creek and Motor City Drive.
