Colorado: Governor Polis Speaks at Education Commission of the State’s Winter Meeting and Visits Denver Indian Health and Family Services

DENVER ~ Governor Jared Polis of Colorado addressed education leaders at the Education Commission of the State's Winter Commissioners Meeting today. The meeting, which brings together education leaders to discuss trends and collaborate on addressing challenges, was an opportunity for Governor Polis to share his National Governor's Association Chair Initiative "Let's Get Ready" and emphasize the importance of providing all students with a high-quality education that leads to successful careers.

During his speech, Governor Polis stressed the critical role that education plays in both the future of students and the state of Colorado. He expressed his excitement about discussing his initiative and creating opportunities for students to pursue various education paths that will lead them to successful careers in Colorado's innovative economy.

Later in the afternoon, Governor Polis visited Denver Indian Health and Family Services, Denver's only urban Indian Health Clinic. This clinic provides culturally appropriate care for American Indian and Alaska Native adults, children, and families. In his visit, Governor Polis highlighted the importance of providing culturally appropriate care for all Coloradans in creating a more inclusive state.

Governor Polis also took the opportunity to express his gratitude towards Denver Indian Health and Family Services for their efforts in helping Native communities receive necessary care and services. In 2022, Governor Polis signed HB22-1190 - Supplemental State Payment to Urban Indian Organizations, which allocated funds to HCPF to distribute among organizations like Denver Indian Health and Family Services to address healthcare challenges within the Urban Indian Community.
