DENVER ~ As the 4th of July approaches, Americans and Coloradans are gearing up to celebrate with their loved ones. This year, Governor Jared Polis is joining in on the festivities and honoring America's 249-year history of independence, freedom, and rejection of monarchy.
In a statement released by his office, Governor Polis expressed his excitement for next year's celebrations. "I am thrilled that in 2026, The United States of America will be celebrating our 250th birthday at the same time Colorado is celebrating our 150th," he said. "This milestone marks 250 years since our country declared independence from King George III, and every July 4th, we get to commemorate this significant moment in American history."
Governor Polis emphasized that this year's celebration is not just about fireworks and barbecues but also about honoring the values of freedom and independence that America was founded upon. He stated, "This 249th birthday is a celebration of the break from kings and tyranny. Here in Colorado and across the country, we continue to defend against those who seek to take away our freedoms."

To mark this special occasion, Coloradans can enjoy various firework and drone light shows throughout the state. However, Governor Polis urges caution and safety when handling fireworks. He encourages anyone using legal fireworks to take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their communities and neighbors.
In anticipation of next year's dual celebrations, Governor Polis has signed legislation creating the 150/250 Commission with the mission to plan a state-wide celebration. He has also issued an Executive Order directing state agencies to find opportunities to commemorate this momentous occasion.
For those in the Denver Metro area, there will be an additional treat tonight as Indy Eve at Civic Center Park will feature a spectacular 300-drone light show on July 3rd. This event is just one of many firework shows happening around the state.
As Coloradans come together to celebrate this 4th of July, Governor Polis wishes everyone a happy, safe, and free holiday. Let us all remember the sacrifices made by our founding fathers and continue to uphold the values of freedom and independence for generations to come.
