Colorado: Governor Polis Renews Executive Action to Protect Coloradans from Costly Federal Actions

Trending...
DENVER ~ Denver - In response to the ongoing financial challenges faced by Colorado due to federal actions, Governor Polis has signed Executive Order D 2025 022 today. This order renews and extends two previous executive orders, D 2025 014 and D 2025 020, which were put in place to suspend certain spending and balance the state's budget.

The initial executive orders were necessary after H.R. 1 reduced state revenue by over $1.2 billion, resulting in the elimination of Colorado's surplus and leaving the budget $800 million out of balance for Fiscal Year 2025-26. With the consequences of H.R. 1 still affecting the state's finances, Governor Polis has extended the executive orders until February 28, 2026 through Executive Order D 2025 022.
