DENVER METRO ~ Today, Governor Jared Polis made a visit to Rocky Mountain Prep Westwood in the Denver Metro area to witness the impressive work being done by students in Colorado. The purpose of his visit was to emphasize the significance of skills-based learning in preparing students for their future education and careers.
During his visit, Governor Polis expressed his enthusiasm for being at Rocky Mountain Prep Westwood and meeting with students and teachers who strive for excellence every day. He stated, "In Colorado, we are dedicated to ensuring that our students acquire the necessary skills to succeed in their careers and contribute to the growth of our state's economy."
As the chair of the National Governors Association, Governor Polis launched an initiative called "Let's Get Ready: Educating All Americans For Success." This initiative focuses on equipping students with the skills needed not only for academic success but also for success beyond the classroom. It aims to build strong workforces and economies across the nation.
In addition to his visit at Rocky Mountain Prep Westwood, Governor Polis also participated in a renaming ceremony at Highlands Ranch. The ceremony was held to honor Kendrick Castillo, a student who lost his life while protecting his classmates during a school shooting at STEM School in 2019. Kendrick was taken from us too soon, but this street name and the monument being built at Highlands Ranch's Civic Green Park are our way of honoring him and carrying on his legacy of courage. He will never be forgotten."
Later in the day, Governor Polis met with members of Las Mamas de Piloto at Celebracion de Comunidad y Salud. This event celebrated and raised awareness about healthy food options in schools and the efforts being made to provide students with culturally diverse meals.
Governor Polis acknowledged the importance of proper nutrition for a student's success, stating, "Proper nutrition is crucial for a student's mental clarity, emotional well-being, and energy levels throughout the day. I want to thank the community members who are working hard to provide Colorado students with locally sourced lunch options that not only benefit our agricultural economy but also help our students thrive."
Governor Polis' visit to Rocky Mountain Prep Westwood and his participation in the renaming ceremony and community event highlight his commitment to improving education and promoting healthy lifestyles for Colorado students.
