BUENA VISTA ~ In a joint effort to support local workforce sustainability, Governor Jared Polis and the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) have announced the development of new workforce housing units in Buena Vista. The project, which includes 12 fully furnished two- and three-bedroom units, aims to address the need for accessible housing for correctional professionals in the area.
Speaking at the announcement event, Governor Polis expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it is a "big success" for both CDOC and the town of Buena Vista. He emphasized that Colorado is committed to supporting its Department of Corrections workers and that these new housing options will play a crucial role in retaining and attracting the necessary workforce to serve the community.
The housing initiative is a collaborative effort between Fading West Development and CDOC. According to Speaker Julie McCluskie, this project is much needed as many corrections officers and DOC employees have struggled to find affordable housing in Buena Vista. She believes that these new options will go a long way in recruiting and retaining crucial DOC workers while also improving their quality of life.

Echoing this sentiment, Andre Stancil, Executive Director of CDOC, stated that they are dedicated to supporting their workforce and enhancing their quality of life. He believes that these new housing options not only address immediate needs but also contribute to the long-term sustainability and growth of communities. Stancil expressed excitement about celebrating with their partners in Buena Vista and showcasing how collaboration can advance the best interests of communities.
By providing local housing options for employees, CDOC hopes to reduce long commutes from surrounding areas, foster more connected communities, and make Colorado an employer of choice. Senator Mark Baisley also praised this move as an important step towards supporting Colorado's corrections workers and increasing housing opportunities for this critical workforce.
