COMMERCE CITY ~ Commerce City - Today, at Dupont Elementary in the Adams-14 School District, Governor Jared Polis announced a new partnership with DonorsChoose to provide $2.7 million in funding for educators to purchase necessary resources and supplies for their classrooms. This funding comes from the Governor Emergency Education Relief (GEER) and aims to support student success in the upcoming school year.
Governor Polis expressed his excitement about this new support for Colorado's hardworking educators, stating that it will help students receive the education they deserve and strengthen the state's future. He also emphasized that this partnership with DonorsChoose will provide teachers with the resources they need to effectively teach their students.
Under this program, eligible teachers can receive up to $600 in supplies per classroom while supplies last. The funds can be used for a variety of purposes, including purchasing classroom supplies, technology learning tools, instructional materials, and social or mental health resources for students.
This is not the first time Governor Polis has partnered with DonorsChoose to support Colorado's education system. Last year, he announced the first round of funding which benefited over 7,000 teachers and 1,300 schools across the state. This year's funding will continue to support projects in areas such as literacy and language, STEM education, and life skills.

In addition to this initiative, Governor Polis recently became chair of the National Governors Association and launched the Let's Get Ready: Preparing All Americans For Success program. This initiative focuses on providing individuals of all ages with the tools they need to succeed and contribute to economic competitiveness.
Some examples of previously funded projects include a teacher in Arvada who used funds to purchase a Van De Graff Generator for hands-on science experiences, a teacher in Pueblo West who bought a new printer for personalized learning materials, and a teacher in Fort Collins who purchased literacy resources for student reading and comprehension.
Teachers who are interested in applying for this funding can visit donorschoose.org and enter the code COLORADO during the project creation process. They can also click here for more information and to easily create a qualifying project. Teachers who have previously received funding from DonorsChoose are also eligible to submit new project requests and access additional funding.
The application process opens today, August 6, 2024, and will remain open until all funds are allocated. This partnership has already helped many teachers receive their first-ever funded projects, with a goal of reaching 60% of participating teachers by 2023. With this continued support from Governor Polis and DonorsChoose, Colorado's educators can provide their students with the resources they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
