DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis, along with members of the Denver community, gathered today to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new housing development that will provide 190 affordable homes and a health clinic specifically designed for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) individuals and families.
During the event, Governor Polis emphasized Colorado's commitment to expanding affordable housing options and accessible healthcare coverage. He praised the initiative as a crucial step towards achieving the state's housing goals and reducing healthcare costs for its residents. "I am excited to see these new homes and continue our efforts to make housing more affordable for all Coloradans," said Governor Polis.
The project was made possible through a partnership between Mercy Housing, Denver Indian Health and Family Services (DIFHS), Native American Housing Circle (NAHC), and WellPower. The Colorado Division of Housing also played a significant role by providing $5,640,000 in funding through Prop 123 and a Housing Development Grant grant of $2,360,000.

The development will consist of 190 homes, including 94 permanent supportive housing units and 96 homes designed to fit within families' budgets. The addition of the health clinic will provide much-needed medical services for AI/AN individuals and families in the area.
Governor Polis has been actively working with the legislature to pass historic housing laws that aim to create more affordable housing near transit lines. These laws also give Coloradans the freedom to build Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on their property and eliminate unnecessary parking mandates that drive up housing costs. Additionally, discriminatory occupancy limits have been removed under these laws.
The Polis administration remains dedicated to expanding housing options for all Coloradans by promoting cost-effective single-stair housing construction and breaking down barriers for modular housing projects that can save residents money. With this new development underway, it is clear that Colorado is taking significant steps towards making affordable housing and healthcare accessible to all its residents.
