Burn Restrictions for Colorado Springs are now in effect

Trending...
~ Colorado Springs Fire Department Fire Marshal Brett Lacey has taken action to protect the city and its residents by ordering burn restrictions to go into effect. The decision was made due to the current dry conditions and unfavorable weather, which increase the risk of potential fire activity.

The restrictions, outlined in Burn Restriction Order 2024-R1, prohibit any type of fire, whether open or contained, in undeveloped wildland areas, brushy areas, or grassy areas. This includes recreational fires, bonfires, open or prescribed burns, and outdoor smoking in all city parks and open spaces.

Additionally, the use of small internal combustion engines without a properly installed spark arrestor is prohibited. Residents are also reminded that recreational fireworks and devices requiring ignition are always prohibited in Colorado Springs. This includes sparklers, snakes, aerials, comets, flares, flyers, fountains, missiles, mortars, spinners, punks, rockets and shells.

To stay informed about any potential fire activity or evacuations in their area, residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts at peakalerts.org. The Burn Restriction Guide provides further details on what is prohibited during this time.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department urges all residents to comply with these burn restrictions for the safety of themselves and their community. Failure to do so could result in serious consequences.
