DURANGO, Colo. - ColoradoDesk -- Purgatory Resort opens for the summer season on June 20 with lift-served mountain biking, family attractions and a full calendar of events, while continuing major investments ahead of the 2026-27 winter season.
Summer highlights include the debut of the Mushroom & Wine Festival, the return of downhill racing with the Durango Classic, and Total Archery Challenge, the nation's premier archery event.
The new Mushroom & Wine Festival, Sept. 4-6, builds on the popularity of Purgatory's mushroom foraging and dinner experiences. The three-day culinary event celebrates mushroom harvest season in the San Juan Mountains with a guided mushroom forage, chef competition luncheon, live cooking demonstrations and a five-course mushroom and wine dinner.
The summer calendar also features the Durango Classic, the final stop of the 2026 Mountain States Cup series. Riders of all abilities will compete on trails at Purgatory that hosted the first-ever UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 1990 and will host the championships again in 2030.

Purgatory Bike Park will offer lift-served downhill mountain biking Thursday through Sunday throughout the summer, with trails for a range of ability levels, from beginner-friendly routes to flow trails and more technical terrain. Kids ages 12 and younger receive free, unlimited bike uplifts all summer with the Power Kids season pass (https://www.purgatory.ski/power-kids-season-pass/).
Beyond the bike park, guests can enjoy base area activities every day of the week including the Inferno Mountain Coaster, alpine slide, treasure panning, Twilight Lake activities and scenic chairlift rides. A la carte tickets and multi-ride tickets are available online and on-site.
As summer operations begin, Purgatory is also moving forward with key capital improvements planned for the 2026-27 ski season, including the Colorado Couloir Lift and five new trails. The project, previously known as Gelande, will create another access point to the upper mountain and give skiers and riders a new way to experience Purgatory.
