~ Colorado Springs Airport (COS) has recently reported a 3.1 percent decrease in passenger traffic for the month of March 2024, with a total of 193,394 passengers. However, there are promising signs of improvement as the airport remains committed to promoting and attracting air service for long-term growth.
One positive development is the increase in seat availability by 6.6 percent year-over-year, setting the stage for a strong 2025 as travel demand is expected to rise during the spring and summer months. The average load factor for March was at 76.5 percent, which aligns with typical early-year travel patterns.
In addition to these improvements, there are notable updates at the airport that will further enhance its services. Southwest Airlines will begin seasonal international service to Cancun (CUN) from June 7 to August 2, 2025. The airline will also resume flights in the fall on November 22 and 29, December 20 and 27, and January 3, 2026. Tickets for these flights are now available for purchase.
Furthermore, a new Federal Inspection Station (FIS) is set to open in June 2025 in preparation for the new international flights. Southwest Airlines will also begin year-round service to San Diego (SAN) on October 2, providing passengers with more options for travel.

The Colorado Springs Airport has also achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing a comprehensive three-day annual inspection by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The airport received a zero-discrepancy report, highlighting its commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
There are also several updates on nonstop routes at COS that will benefit travelers. These include twice weekly service to all three destinations - Phoenix/Mesa (AZA), Chicago O'Hare (ORD), and Atlanta (ATL). Additionally, there will be daily nonstop service to Salt Lake City (SLC) with an additional flight starting in July 2025. Seasonal service to Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) will also resume in June 2025.
For those looking for international travel options, there will be weekly nonstop seasonal service to Cancun, Mexico beginning June 7, 2025, and five times per week service to San Diego (SAN) starting October 2, 2025. Other nonstop destinations include Baltimore/Washington (BWI), San Antonio (SAT), and Denver (DEN), with easy connections coast-to-coast and worldwide.
Overall, the Colorado Springs Airport is making significant strides in improving its services and attracting more air traffic. With a strong focus on long-term growth and new developments in the works, it is poised for a successful future as a key transportation hub in the region.
