~ Colorado Springs Airport (COS) has reported a strong start to the year with several areas of growth in January 2026. According to the airport, the overall load factor rose by 3.5 points to 71.1 percent, indicating a higher demand for passenger travel. This increase was largely driven by Delta Airlines, which reported a 27 percent rise in enplanements and a 26 percent increase in seats compared to last year.
Delta's growth can be attributed to their increased frequencies to Atlanta and Salt Lake City, providing more options for travelers in the Pikes Peak region. This positive trend is expected to continue as the airport continues to expand its services.
In addition to passenger growth, COS also received recognition for its infrastructure improvements. The airport was awarded the 2025 Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association "Best in Colorado" award in the airport category for its realignment of Taxiway Alpha (A4-A7). This project included strengthening pavement and improving airfield drainage to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) design standards.

On January 22nd, COS held a ceremonial groundbreaking for Forge, a Class A industrial development located at the entrance of Peak Innovation Park. This project is expected to bring economic benefits and job opportunities to the region.
The Elevate COS Concourse Modernization project also made significant progress in January. The Known Crew Member (KCM) screening area has been relocated and is now fully operational. Terrazzo flooring installation throughout the concourse has been completed, and renovations to gate 1 and gate 3 holdrooms are finished.
However, some projects are still underway, such as improvements to the TSA checkpoint entry and exit ramps which are expected to be completed by early summer of 2026.
Looking ahead, there are several upcoming milestones at COS that will further enhance the airport's services. On March 11th, Southwest Airlines will celebrate its fifth anniversary at COS with a passenger and public celebration on the concourse. Additionally, on March 16th, the concourse automated exit lane breach control system is projected to open at the Meet & Greet area.
