Governor Polis Raises Canadian National Flag at Colorado State Capitol to Celebrate March 15th as Colorado Canada Friendship Day

DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Today, Governor Jared Polis will commemorate Colorado Canada Friendship Day by raising the Canadian National Flag at the Colorado State Capitol. In the evening, the Capitol will be illuminated with the colors of the Canadian flag - white and red.

The Governor expressed his appreciation for the strong bond between Colorado and Canada, stating that their friendship extends beyond just maple syrup and hockey players. He believes that by working together, even in difficult times, both nations can strengthen their economies and improve the lives of their citizens. Governor Polis also expressed his gratitude towards Canada and looks forward to celebrating this day annually.

Sylvain Fabi, Consul General of Canada in Denver, thanked Governor Polis for recognizing the strength of the relationship between Canada and Colorado. He stated that Canadians are proud to see their flag flying alongside Colorado's at the State Capitol, which reaffirms their partnership, friendship, and alliance.

According to data from 2023, Colorado exported $1.8 billion worth of goods and produce to Canada, accounting for 18% of its trade exports. A significant portion of these exports was beef from local farmers and ranchers. Additionally, 176,612 visitors from Canada traveled to Colorado in the same year, boosting its tourism industry and supporting small businesses and the economy. Furthermore, there are 272 Canadian-owned companies in Colorado that employ over 21,000 workers.

To showcase the strong bond between Colorado and Canada on this special day, the Capitol will be lit up in red and white tonight.
