DENVER ~ Denver, Colorado - Governor Jared Polis, along with Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera and members of the General Assembly, welcomed the Denver Summit FC team to the state capitol today. The governor proclaimed April 27, 2026 as Denver Summit FC at the Capitol Day in honor of the team's recent success and impact on women's sports in Colorado.
During the proclamation ceremony, Governor Polis expressed his excitement for having a professional women's sports team in Colorado. He praised the team for breaking attendance records at their home opener at Empower Field and joining other iconic professional teams in the state.
"Colorado is a sports state and Denver Summit has hit the field running," said Governor Polis. "I am thrilled that they have joined our roster of professional teams and I am honored to proclaim today as Denver Summit FC Day at the Capitol."
Lt. Governor Primavera also spoke about the significance of having a women's professional sports team in Colorado. She shared her own experience growing up without opportunities for girls to play sports and highlighted how watching Denver Summit FC can inspire young women across the state.

"When I was growing up, girls didn't play sports in school or professionally," said Lt. Governor Primavera. "But now, young women can watch Denver Summit FC and see athletes who look like them playing at the highest level of the sport."
Senator Marc Catlin also joined in celebrating this milestone for women's sports in Colorado. He expressed his honor to be part of Denver Summit FC's inaugural season and recognized their impact on creating opportunities for female athletes.
"It's such an honor to recognize Colorado's first major women's professional sports team at the Capitol," said Senator Catlin. "Moments like this matter and it's important to celebrate these milestones and excellence in women's sports."
