DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis has declared a disaster emergency in response to the severe winter weather conditions expected to hit parts of Colorado. The declaration authorizes unarmed members of the Colorado National Guard to provide support for winter storm response efforts.
In addition, the declaration activates the Colorado State Emergency Operations Center and the State Emergency Operations Plan. It also directs the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to take all necessary and appropriate actions to assist affected jurisdictions with their response, recovery, and mitigation efforts. This includes mobilizing state resources and utilizing Emergency Procurement Procedures.
The storm is expected to develop throughout the day, prompting the Governor's decision to declare a disaster emergency in order to have resources in place for rescue efforts as conditions worsen into the evening.

To ensure the safety of state employees, Governor Polis and the Department of Personnel & Administration have announced that government offices along the Front Range will move to remote work where possible. Agencies will also have discretion to close public-facing state offices based on weather conditions throughout the day. Some facilities in Southern and Southeastern Colorado may be closed for the entire day. Individuals are advised to check with their relevant facility or agency for more information.
However, state facilities essential for public health and safety will maintain regular operating schedules and essential staff will report as usual.
