~ Colorado Springs - Garden of the Gods Park will experience temporary traffic changes from Monday, Nov. 18 through Friday, Nov. 22 due to a waterline installation project. The park, known for its stunning rock formations and scenic trails, will remain open to the public during this time but visitors are encouraged to take alternate routes.
The project is a joint effort between Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, Colorado Springs Utilities, the Colorado Springs Fire Department and the Office of Accessibility. Its main goal is to improve the water infrastructure in the park while also enhancing safety and accessibility for visitors.
To ensure the safety of both park visitors and construction crews, access to Juniper Way Loop from Gateway Road will be restricted during this period. This means that Gateway Road will be closed for entry into the park and drivers will only be able to exit via Gateway Road.
Pedestrians will still be allowed to enter the park via Gateway Trail to Bretag Trail, but cyclists and vehicles must use alternative entrances. Cyclists will not be able to access the park via Gateway Trail at this time. Additionally, those traveling through the park by vehicle or bike must exit via Gateway Road as Juniper Way Loop will be inaccessible.

For those looking for alternative routes into Garden of the Gods Park during this time, free shuttles will operate from Parking Lot 1 on Friday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, please note that shuttle service will not be available on Monday, Nov. 18 and Friday, Nov. 22. It will resume on Saturday, Nov. 23 and continue until the end of the year.
Visitors can also take advantage of recently reopened restrooms in Parking Lot 2 during normal park hours. However, Parking Lot 4 is now closed and expected to remain so until spring 2025. Fortunately, Parking Lot 1 will still be accessible throughout the construction project via the Gateway Trail.
The Central Garden Trail, which runs from Gateway Rd. to Parking Lot 4, is also closed and is expected to reopen in early spring 2025. In the meantime, visitors can find alternate trail routes on the project page. Climbing routes located on the west side of North Gateway Rock accessed via climbing gates 8 & 9 are also closed until the Central Garden Trail is fully reopened. For a list of alternative routes, climbers can visit Rock Climbing at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs (gardenofgods.com) or call 719-634-6666.
For more information on timelines and an interactive map of the project, visitors can visit ColoradoSprings.gov/GOGWaterlineProject. The park and its facilities are expected to return to normal by spring 2025.
