Colorado Springs: Downtown intersection to temporarily become all-way stop

Trending...
~ Colorado Springs - On Friday, Sept. 5 at 9 a.m., the intersection at Tejon Street and Pikes Peak Avenue will undergo a temporary change due to construction activities for the Tejon Revitalization Project. The intersection will transition to an all-way, signed stop, and drivers are reminded to follow posted signs and adhere to the multi-way stop law in Colorado.

According to city officials, motorists must yield to any vehicle that has already entered the intersection and when multiple vehicles arrive at the same time, they should yield to the vehicle on their right. This change is expected to remain in effect until construction is completed and traffic signals can return to normal function.

In addition to the intersection change, the City has also announced a temporary closure of Tejon Street from Pikes Peak Avenue to Kiowa Street for vehicle traffic. During this time, street parking will not be available on this single block of Tejon Street until further notice. However, businesses on this block will receive vouchers for two hours of free parking at any of the three nearby City garages.

Pedestrian walkways will still be accessible on Tejon between Pikes Peak and Kiowa Streets, allowing business access throughout the construction process. This closure is part of the larger Tejon Street Revitalization Project which aims to expand outdoor dining areas and sidewalks in order to increase public safety, pedestrian accessibility, and business activity.

Looking ahead, city officials have also announced that construction will make way for three special events that utilize Tejon Street: Pipes and Drums Procession (Fallen Firefighters weekend) on Sept. 19-20, "In Their Honor" Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 8, and The Festival of Lights Parade on Dec. 6.

The project has already reopened Tejon Street from Colorado Avenue to Pikes Peak Avenue for vehicle traffic and diagonal parking via convenient payment kiosks. For more information about the Tejon Street Revitalization Project and to sign up for newsletters, visit ColoradoSprings.gov/tejonstreet.
