Colorado: Governor Polis Appoints Susan M. Ryan and Alexander R. Haynes to the 9th Judicial District Court

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis made two appointments to the 9th Judicial District Court. Susan M. Ryan's appointment is created by the retirement of the Honorable John F. Neiley and is effective October 8, 2025. Alexander R. Haynes's appointment is created by the retirement of the Honorable Denise K. Lynch and is effective November 29, 2025.

Susan M. Ryan

Ms. Ryan is Partner at Holland & Hart, a position she has held since 2024. Her practice consists of water law, civil litigation, municipal law, and land use matters. Previously, she was Of Counsel at Holland & Hart (2021-2023); Water Referee and District Court Magistrate in the 9th Judicial District (2016-2021); Associate (2007-2013) and Shareholder (2014-2016) at Ryley Carlock & Applewhite; Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Gregory Hobbs of the Colorado Supreme Court (2006-2007); and Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Russell Carparelli of the Colorado Court of Appeals (2005-2006). Ms. Ryan earned her B.S. from the University of Colorado in 2001, and her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2005.

Alexander R. Haynes

Mr. Haynes is the Office Head and Managing Attorney at the Glenwood Springs Office of the Colorado State Public Defender, a position he has held since 2023. His practice consists of criminal defense. Previously he was Supervising Public Defender (2022-2023) and Deputy Public Defender (2015-2022) at the office. Mr. Haynes earned his B.A. from Northwestern University in 2008, and his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School in 2015.
