~ Colorado Springs, CO - On the evening of January 2, 2026, tragedy struck at the intersection of East Espanola Street and North Cascade Avenue when a vehicle collided with a pedestrian. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call about the incident at approximately 5:47 p.m.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the pedestrian deceased. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with responders. In light of the severity of the crash, the CSPD Major Crash Team took over the investigation.
According to initial reports, the vehicle was traveling northbound on North Cascade Avenue towards East Espanola Street, which is a single-lane roadway. The pedestrian was crossing North Cascade Avenue near East Espanola Street when they were struck by the vehicle.

At this time, there is no suspicion of impairment on behalf of the driver and speed does not seem to have played a role in the collision. However, further investigation is still ongoing.
The El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on January 3, 2026 and identified the deceased pedestrian as 76-year-old Alan Krause.
This tragic incident marks Colorado Springs' first traffic fatality of the year. In comparison, this time last year there were no traffic fatalities reported in Colorado Springs. Over the past year, there have been a total of 54 traffic fatalities in this area.
The CSPD urges all drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution and follow traffic laws to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
