~ A passenger killed in a two-vehicle crash in Colorado Springs on Oct. 2 was identified as 66-year-old Jaye Smart, police said.

The Colorado Springs Police Department said it was notified of the crash at 12:20 p.m. near North Nevada Avenue and Corporate Drive. A pickup traveling north on the Interstate 25 frontage road and a sedan traveling south on Corporate Drive entered the intersection and collided, according to the department's preliminary investigation.

The sedan's driver was taken to a hospital for treatment. Smart was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The department's Major Crash Team is investigating.

The crash was the 45th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026, matching the number recorded by the same point last year, according to police. The department also reported 54 traffic-related fatalities in the city over the preceding 365 days.
