~ Colorado Springs Police Department Notifies Community of Sex Offender's Move
The Colorado Springs Police Department has recently announced that Mitchell Wayne Bishop, a registered sex offender, has moved to an address within the city. According to Colorado law, the department is required to make a "community notification" in such cases.
Bishop, who has been labeled as a "Sexually Violent Predator" (SVP) by the Colorado Courts due to his past behavior, will now reside at 329 Swope Ave. The police department has taken several steps to ensure that the community is aware of Bishop's presence and that he understands his responsibilities as a sex offender.
Firstly, the department notified the Colorado Department of Public Safety's Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) Notification Team. They also reviewed and confirmed Bishop's residence, employment status, access to vehicles, legal status, and past crimes. In addition, they made notifications to neighbors and businesses in the immediate area and briefed patrol personnel on Bishop's status and history.

The police department also notified surrounding law enforcement agencies and provided an online video explaining the SVP community notification process and additional resources for the community. This video can be found on coloradosprings.gov under Public Safety then Police.
Bishop's criminal history reveals that he was convicted in 2007 of Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child and Child Abuse in Denver County. He was also convicted of Domestic Violence-Harassment in 1995. At present, he is registered as living at 329 Swope Ave and is described as a white male, 65 years old, 6'0" tall, weighing 248lbs with gray hair and brown eyes.
Bishop is one of twenty-one "Sexually Violent Predators" currently registered with the Colorado Springs Police Department who reside in the community. The department takes his presence very seriously and is committed to ensuring that he follows all laws and that the citizens remain safe and informed.
Detective J.R. Brown of the Colorado Springs Police Department Registered Sex Offender Unit can be contacted at 719-444-7672 for any further questions about Bishop or the community notification process. The department urges the community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behavior by Bishop or any other sex offender in the area.
