~ Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Police Department has announced that Larry Kaualeni Abenes, a convicted sex offender, has been released on supervised parole and has relocated to an address within the city. Abenes, who has been labeled as a "Sexually Violent Predator" (SVP) by the Colorado Courts, is required by law to be notified to the community.
In accordance with Colorado law, the police department has taken several steps to ensure that the community is aware of Abenes's presence. This includes notifying the Colorado Department of Public Safety's Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) Notification Team and reviewing and confirming his residence, employment, access to vehicles, legal status, and past crimes.
The police department has also made efforts to inform neighbors and businesses in the immediate area of Abenes's new address. Patrol personnel have been briefed on his status, history, appearance, residence, employment, and vehicles. Surrounding law enforcement agencies have also been notified.

To further educate the community about SVPs and the notification process, an online video has been provided on the city's website. The video can be accessed by visiting www.coloradosprings.gov and clicking on "Public Safety" then "Police."
The police department is committed to ensuring that Abenes registers as a sex offender and understands his responsibilities as such. His criminal history reveals that he was previously convicted in El Paso County in 2006 for Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust- Victim Under 15 and Aggravated Incest. He also has prior convictions in Kohala County, Hawaii for Second-Degree Sodomy (2 counts) and Second-Degree Sexual Abuse.
Currently registered at Community Correction facility "Embrave" at 3675 Roberts Rd., Abenes is described as an Asian/Pacific Islander male who is 61 years old, 5'7" tall, and weighs 176lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Abenes is one of twenty "Sexually Violent Predators" registered with the Colorado Springs Police Department who reside in the community. The police department takes his presence seriously and is dedicated to ensuring that he follows the law and that citizens remain safe and informed.
