~ Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Police Department has announced that Larry Kaualeni Abenes, a convicted sex offender, has been released on supervised parole and has relocated to an address within the city. Abenes, who has been labeled as a "Sexually Violent Predator" (SVP) by the Colorado Courts, is required by law to be notified to the community.
In accordance with Colorado law, the police department has taken several steps to ensure that the community is aware of Abenes's presence. This includes notifying the Colorado Department of Public Safety's Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) Notification Team and reviewing and confirming his residence, employment, access to vehicles, legal status, and past crimes.
The police department has also made efforts to inform neighbors and businesses in the immediate area of Abenes's new address. Patrol personnel have been briefed on his status, history, appearance, residence, employment, and vehicles. Surrounding law enforcement agencies have also been notified.
