~ Colorado Springs - Starting today, motorists traveling on southbound 8th Street between Costilla Street and Lower Gold Camp Road will experience some changes in their commute. The city has announced that the road will be reduced to one through lane, with traffic being shifted into the center turn lane. This change is expected to remain in place for approximately two weeks while utility work is being performed by crews.
In addition, westbound Moreno Avenue at South 8th Street will be closed during this time. However, eastbound Moreno Avenue will remain open for drivers. These closures are necessary for the safety of both motorists and workers.
During this temporary closure, Mountain Metropolitan Transit Bus Stop 403 at South 8th Street and Moreno Avenue will also be temporarily closed. Trucks accessing Lower Gold Camp Road are advised to use 21st Street as an alternate route to avoid turning restrictions associated with the work zone.

Further south of this work area, there is an existing center lane closure at Motor City Drive for the installation of a new water main. Left turns at the intersection are still restricted and signed detours are in place.
Despite these changes, access to local businesses will remain open and clearly marked at all times. However, motorists should plan for extra travel time and exercise caution while driving through these work zones.
