DENVER - Governor Jared Polis released the following statement following the announcement from Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser on the Grand Jury investigation into the death of Elijah McClain. Governor Polis designated AG Weiser as the State's prosecutor to investigate Elijah McClain's death by Executive Order in June 2020. The Grand Jury returned a 32 count criminal indictment against three Aurora officers and two paramedics.

"Elijah McClain's death was a tragedy and my thoughts are with his mother, father, friends, and family today. This innocent young man should be here today. I thank Attorney General Phil Weiser and the members of the Grand Jury for their work to hold those responsible accountable," said Governor Polis.
