DENVER ~ Denver, CO - In recognition of Peace Officer Memorial Day, Governor Jared Polis has ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Thursday, May 15th. This day is dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have lost their lives while serving and protecting Colorado communities.
Governor Polis expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers, stating, "Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line each day to keep us safe, and it is important for us to take a moment today to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our safety." He also extended his thoughts and prayers to the families of fallen officers.
Last November, voters passed Proposition 130 which allocated $350 million towards law enforcement recruitment, training, retention efforts, and benefits for families of officers killed in the line of duty. Governor Polis is committed to implementing this funding as quickly as possible in order to strengthen law enforcement and support the families of fallen officers. The legislature has formalized these investments through SB25-310 - Proposition 130 Implementation, which Governor Polis plans to sign into law soon.
