Colorado: Governor Polis Announces Panel to Review Applications for the District Attorney in the 7th Judicial District

DENVER ~ In a press release issued today, Governor Jared Polis announced the formation of a panel to review applications and recommend finalists for the interim District Attorney position in the 7th Judicial District. This district encompasses Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel counties. The vacancy for this position was created by the resignation of current District Attorney Seth Ryan, effective October 31, 2024.

Governor Polis emphasized the importance of having strong and dedicated District Attorneys in Colorado who are committed to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of communities. He encouraged well-qualified attorneys who are interested in serving these counties to apply for this opening.

The panel will consist of five members, including former DA for the 2nd Judicial District (Denver) Bill Ritter, current DA for the 1st Judicial District (Jefferson and Gilpin counties) Alexis King, current DA for the 13th Judicial District (Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Washington, Sedgwick, Yuma, and Kit Carson counties) Travis Sides, former DA for the 7th Judicial District (Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray,and San Miguel counties) Dan Hotsenpiler,and Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Polis Kara Veitch.

The application process will remain open until suitable candidates are found. Interviews will begin during the week of October 14th in 2024. Interested individuals should submit a resume and cover letter to LegalCounsel@state.co.us. The salary for this position is set at $140,000 per year.

This panel is tasked with finding a qualified candidate who will serve as interim District Attorney until a permanent replacement can be appointed.
