~ The City of Colorado Springs has recently announced the recipients of $850,000 in competitive grants awarded by the Housing and Community Vitality Department. These grants are provided annually by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist low to moderate income individuals and families in the community.
The awards support the City's strategic priorities, which include preventing homelessness, increasing housing options, and promoting public safety. The funds will be distributed among various local agencies that serve vulnerable residents in different areas of impact.
Among the recipient organizations are Catholic Charities of Central Colorado, which received $30,000 for homelessness prevention; Community Partnership for Child Development, which was awarded $35,000 for early childhood education; and Lutheran Family Services, which received $30,000 for homelessness prevention for children.
Other organizations that received grants include Greccio Housing for eviction prevention assistance ($25,000), Forge Evolution for counseling justice-involved youth ($70,000), Colorado Legal Services to keep seniors and people with disabilities housed ($48,000), Serenity Recovery Connection for substance abuse and behavioral counseling ($70,000), and Colorado Springs Fire Department to end the jail-to-street cycle ($92,000).
