DENVER ~ As Colorado prepares to celebrate its 150th birthday in 2026, Governor Polis has announced a new survey for Coloradans to share their thoughts on the best way to commemorate this milestone. The survey, which will be open until midnight on Monday, July 21st, allows residents across the state to make their voices heard and provide input on how to celebrate Colorado's Sesquicentennial.
According to Governor Polis, this celebration is for every Coloradan and it is important that each person has a say in how the state marks this historic occasion. He believes that the state's Sesquicentennial should be celebrated in a way that is inclusive and representative of all residents. Therefore, he encourages all Coloradans who want to make their voices heard to submit a survey response before the deadline.

Last November, after numerous public meetings and months of planning, Governor Polis unveiled a vision for the Colorado 150 Pedestrian Walkway. This walkway would provide an opportunity for visitors to the State Capitol to enjoy a space that celebrates Colorado's history through art and storytelling while also improving safety and accessibility between the park and the Capitol.
The current survey gives Coloradans the chance to share their opinions on whether or not they support proceeding with the proposed walkway as planned or if they prefer a smaller scale or no walkway at all. Additionally, participants can also provide feedback on other potential ways to celebrate the state's Sesquicentennial such as making improvements to the park or exploring opportunities in other parts of Colorado.
As Colorado approaches its 150th birthday, it is important for all residents to have a say in how this milestone is celebrated. The survey provides an avenue for Coloradans' voices to be heard and ensures that this historic occasion is commemorated in a way that reflects the diversity and inclusivity of the state.
