~ Colorado Springs - The highly anticipated waterline project in Garden of the Gods Park is set to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 16, with an expected completion date of spring 2025. This project, a collaboration between Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, Colorado Springs Utilities, the Colorado Springs Fire Department and the Office of Accessibility, aims to improve the water infrastructure as well as enhance safety and accessibility in the popular park.
According to Anna Cordova, manager of Garden of the Gods Park, the community's patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as they embark on this important project. "We realize some of the detours and closures will be inconvenient at times, but our goal is to create as little disruption to park operations as possible," she stated. "We are committed to maintaining access to Garden of the Gods Park and thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to preserve this National Natural Landmark."

The project will involve occasional and intermittent trail and road closures throughout the duration of construction. However, visitors can rest assured that the park will remain open during this time. Visitors are asked to use caution and follow all signage while navigating through any closures.
To ensure minimal disruption for visitors, specific timelines have been established for various areas within the park. Gateway Road west will be closed into Garden of the Gods Park for both vehicles and cyclists. However, visitors can still access Parking Lot 1 and walk into the park via Gateway Trail. Cyclists will also be permitted to use Gateway Trail to access Juniper Way Loop.
The eastbound lane of Gateway Road will remain open for vehicles exiting the park. However, those wishing to enter must use alternative routes such as Balanced Rock (off Garden Dr.), Ridge Road (off W. Pikes Peak Ave.), Beckers Lane (off Manitou Ave.), or take advantage of free shuttle services from Parking Lot 1 into Garden of the Gods Park on Fridays through Mondays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

During the construction period, some facilities within the park will also be affected. Parking Lot 4 is now closed and expected to remain closed until spring 2025. However, Parking Lot 1 will remain open with access into the park via the Gateway Trail. Additional ADA spots have been added to Parking Lot 2 for visitors with disabilities.
The restrooms in Parking Lot 2 will be closed from October 16 through November, but portable restrooms will be available for visitors during this time. The Central Garden Trail from Gateway Rd. to Parking Lot 4 will also close on Wednesday, Oct. 23 and is expected to reopen in early spring 2025.
To stay updated on any changes or closures, visitors can follow CoSpringsParks on Facebook or view the interactive map at ColoradoSprings.gov/GOGWaterlineProject.
