~ On June 6, 2026, a tragic collision occurred on northbound I-25 near Circle Drive in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received multiple 9-1-1 calls at approximately 12:16 p.m. reporting a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle.
Upon arrival, officers found citizens providing medical assistance to the motorcycle driver who had been thrown off his bike and down an embankment just east of Interstate 25. The driver was immediately transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle involved did not sustain any injuries.
The CSPD Major Crash Team was notified and responded to lead the investigation into the incident. It was discovered that the motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. As such, his injuries were severe and ultimately proved fatal.

On June 30, 2026, CSPD received notification from the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the motorcycle driver had passed away while under hospice care. He was identified as 62-year-old David Joseph.
This tragic incident marks the 30th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs for the year of 2026. Comparatively, at this time last year, there were only 23 traffic fatalities in the city. Over the past year, there have been a total of 60 traffic-related fatalities within Colorado Springs.
The investigation into this collision remains open and active. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact CSPD at 719-444-4000. For those who wish to remain anonymous, they can call Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 719-634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
