~ The Colorado Springs City Council is currently in search of two alternate members to join the Planning Commission. These alternates will be appointed by the City Council and will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience while fulfilling support roles within the commission.
While alternate members typically do not have voting power, they are held to the same standards and responsibilities as voting members. This includes participating in discussions on non-quasi-judicial matters and stepping in for voting members when necessary to meet quorum. In these cases, alternates will also have the ability to vote.
The Planning Commission, a nine-member board appointed by the City Council, plays a crucial role in reviewing land development applications such as annexations, zoning changes, and conditional use permits. Additionally, they provide guidance on long-term city planning efforts such as the comprehensive plan, community plans, and land development code.
