STATEWIDE ~ In a swift response to the ongoing wildfires in Colorado, Governor Jared Polis has declared a verbal state of disaster emergency for the Stone Mountain Fire. This declaration comes in addition to the earlier declarations made for the Alexander Mountain and Currant Creek Fires.
The verbal declaration activates the State Emergency Operations Plan and directs the Department of Public Safety, along with its Divisions of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC), to take all necessary actions to assist with response, recovery, and mitigation efforts for the Stone Mountain Fire.
Governor Polis emphasized the importance of providing immediate support to contain the fire and aid those affected. "Just as we are doing for the Alexander Mountain and Currant Creek Fires, we are taking immediate action to provide important state support more quickly that can help contain the Stone Mountain Fire as quickly as possible and support those impacted," he stated.

The State of Colorado is taking a comprehensive approach to managing these wildfires, with resources being allocated across multiple counties. These include aviation support such as FIREHAWK® helicopters and crews, air tankers, multi-mission aircrafts, Type-2 helicopters and crews. Additionally, there are fire engines, firefighter crews, intelligence and management support, communications support, road closure assistance, traffic control, shelter and volunteer support, veterinary medical teams, and drone operations.
Federal aviation resources have also been mobilized to aid in response efforts. A Douglas County helicopter has also been deployed.
To ensure that residents stay informed during this emergency situation, Coloradans are encouraged to sign up for county emergency alerts from their local public safety agency. Links to sign up for these alerts can be found on the DHSEM website.
As these wildfires continue to ravage parts of Colorado, it is crucial for all levels of government to work together in a coordinated effort to manage them effectively. The state remains committed to providing necessary resources and support to contain and mitigate the impact of these fires.
