DENVER ~ Denver - In a move to save Coloradans money on healthcare and protect vulnerable children and families, Governor Jared Polis signed several new laws today. These laws aim to address the rising costs of healthcare and provide support for those in need of certain therapies.
The first bill signed by Governor Polis was SB26-178, also known as the Health Insurance Affordability Measures. This bill, sponsored by Senators Kyle Mullica and Iman Jodeh, as well as Representatives Kyle Brown and Lindsay Gilchrist, establishes the Health Insurance Affordability Enterprise. This enterprise has already saved Coloradans over $500 million on insurance last year. Governor Polis emphasized the importance of this bill in light of federal cuts to healthcare, stating that while Washington DC may be leaving Coloradans behind, the state is working towards lowering costs and ensuring access to necessary care.
Next, Governor Polis signed HB26-1425, also known as Applied Behavior Analysis Services. This bipartisan bill, sponsored by Representatives Lindsay Gilchrist and Kyle Brown and Senators Lindsey Daugherty and Scott Bright, aims to protect vulnerable children with autism by establishing licensing standards for facilities that provide applied behavior analysis services. Governor Polis stressed the importance of this law in improving care quality for children with autism and ensuring their safety.

Governor Polis then turned his attention to HB26-1202, also known as the Strategy to Reduce & Prevent Homelessness. This bill, sponsored by Representatives Manny Rutinel and Emily Sirota, as well as Senators Judy Amabile and Janice Marchman, aims to reduce homelessness in Colorado. The governor acknowledged that while addressing homelessness is primarily a local government responsibility, this law will help the state be a better partner in ensuring everyone has a safe place to call home.
In addition to these bills focused on healthcare and social services, Governor Polis also signed several other bills in a ceremony today. These include HB26-1069, which aims to improve the availability of emergency medical services, and HB26-1262, which ensures patient access to compounded medical items. The governor also signed SB26-113, which requires recovery residences to obtain a behavioral health administration license.
One of the most significant bills signed by Governor Polis was HB26-1382, also known as Support of Coloradans with Disabilities. This bill, sponsored by Representatives Kyle Brown and Emily Sirota and Senators Jeff Bridges and Judy Amabile, aims to provide more support and resources for Coloradans with disabilities. Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera spoke about the impact of this bill, stating that it is the culmination of fifteen years of work and will serve as a lasting commitment to the Colorado for All vision.
