AURORA ~ AURORA - Governor Jared Polis and Waste Management came together in Aurora today to celebrate the grand opening of the WM Denver East sustainability campus. The state-of-the-art facility is a significant step towards expanding recycling access to more Coloradans and achieving the state's ambitious climate goals.
The groundbreaking for this facility was attended by Governor Polis back in 2024, and he expressed his excitement for its completion. "This state-of-the-art Waste Management campus is a major step forward for sustainability in Colorado," said Governor Polis. He also highlighted the importance of investments in sustainability infrastructure, such as this facility, in supporting the state's goals for environmental, economic, and public health success.
Governor Polis has been taking bold action since 2019 to combat climate change and make Colorado a leader in sustainability. One of these actions is the Producer Responsibility Program for paper and packaging, created by HB22-1355, which began this year. This program aims to provide a convenient and cost-effective statewide recycling system that offers free and equitable recycling for all residents.

Another initiative is the Colorado Circular Communities (C3) Enterprise, established by HB24-1449. This statewide program provides financial and technical assistance to communities, businesses, schools, and others to promote the circular economy throughout the state. Since its inception in 2025, 63 grants have been awarded.
In line with these efforts, the Colorado Energy Office recently released its final Greenhouse Gas Report. The report outlines the progress made by the Polis-Primavera administration towards achieving the state's ambitious emissions reduction goals while also protecting Colorado's natural resources and landscapes.
The opening of WM Denver East reflects this progress by expanding recycling access, reducing waste and emissions, and building sustainable infrastructure to support an environmentally conscious, affordable, and healthy Colorado For All. With this new facility in place, Waste Management is playing a crucial role in helping Colorado become a leader in sustainability and combatting climate change.
