~ The City of Colorado Springs has announced that a Special Municipal Election will be held on June 17 for eligible voters to vote on a ballot question regarding Ordinance No. 25-16. This ordinance proposes the annexation of the area known as Karman Line Addition No. 6, located east of the city.
The decision to hold this election was made after City Council voted on and passed the proposed Karman Line Annexation through six separate ordinances on January 28. However, following a citizen-initiated referendum petition, Council reconsidered one of the annexation ordinances, Ordinance No. 25-16, at its regular meeting on April 8.
According to the City Charter, Council was required to either repeal the ordinance or send it to a special municipal election for voters to approve or reject it. After careful consideration, Council voted at the meeting to send the following ballot language to eligible electors: "Shall the voters approve Ordinance 25-16, annexing that area known as Karman Line Addition No. 6 consisting of 1,876.24 acres located northwest of the Bradley Road and Curtis Road intersection into the City of Colorado Springs?"
