~ The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) Department has announced the release of their highly anticipated 2025 Discover COS Calendar. This annual calendar, which showcases "places less traveled" throughout the city's parks, trails, and open spaces, features stunning photos from the winners of the 12th annual Discover COS photo contest.
Available for purchase at ShopCOS.org while supplies last, the calendar can be picked up at the Parks administration building located at 1401 Recreation Way. All proceeds from the sales will directly benefit the Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) program. This program is funded by a dedicated City sales tax and is committed to preserving and protecting trails, open spaces, and parks in Colorado Springs.
According to PRCS director Britt Haley, the 2025 Discover COS Calendar is a beautiful representation of the city's natural beauty. Each month captures breathtaking scenery and recreational opportunities that are treasured by the community. By purchasing this calendar, individuals not only celebrate their surroundings but also contribute to maintaining and enhancing these beloved public spaces.

The TOPS program was first approved by Colorado Springs voters in April 1997. It is funded through a 0.1% sales tax or one penny on every $10 purchase. In 2023, voters renewed TOPS at the same rate through 2025. Currently generating over $11 million annually, TOPS has been instrumental in conserving more than 7,500 acres of open space, building and improving 66 parks, and constructing 50 miles of trails in the city.
Projects supported by TOPS can be found in every quadrant of Colorado Springs. One notable example is Red Rock Canyon Open Space which was purchased by the City in 2003 with TOPS funds. Prior to its acquisition, this area was slated to become a resort community with a convention center, high-rise towers, commercial centers, and a private golf course.
The 2025 Discover COS Calendar not only serves as a stunning visual representation of the city's natural beauty but also highlights the importance of preserving and protecting these spaces for future generations. With each purchase, individuals are making a direct impact on the maintenance and enhancement of Colorado Springs' parks, trails, and open spaces.
