~ Colorado Springs Airport (COS) has seen a slight slowdown in passenger air travel in the month of January, with only a 0.5 percent increase in total passengers compared to the same time last year. This comes after a record-breaking year in 2024 for the airport.
According to airport officials, the average load factor for January was 67.6 percent, which is a 2.7 percent decrease from the previous year. Additionally, there were 3.1 percent less seats available for travelers during this time. This trend is not unique to COS, as January and February are typically slower months for air travel across the industry.
Despite this downturn, there are still exciting developments on the horizon for COS. Allegiant Air has recently started service to three new destinations - Phoenix/Mesa (AZA), Santa Ana/Orange County (SNA), and St. Petersburg/Tampa (PIE). These flights began in February and are expected to bring more visitors to Colorado Springs.
In addition, a new Federal Inspection Services (FIS) facility is set to open at COS in June of 2025. This will make international travel more convenient for passengers flying through the airport.

Furthermore, Southwest will begin year-round service to San Diego (SAN) starting October 2nd of this year.
The Concourse Modernization project at COS, known as ElevateCOS, has completed its first two phases successfully and is now moving into its third phase.
There have also been updates on nonstop routes at COS. Phoenix/Mesa (AZA) will now offer twice weekly seasonal service, while Chicago O'Hare (ORD) will begin daily nonstop service on June 5th of this year. Atlanta (ATL) will have twice daily nonstop service, except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Salt Lake City (SLC) will have daily nonstop service with an additional flight starting in July.
In addition, seasonal service to Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) will resume in June of this year, and there will be weekly nonstop seasonal service to Cancun, Mexico starting on June 7th. San Diego (SAN) will also have five times per week service starting October 2nd.
Other destinations with daily nonstop flights from COS include Baltimore/Washington (BWI), San Antonio (SAT), and Denver (DEN). With easy connections coast-to-coast and worldwide, COS offers a convenient travel option for passengers. In fact, there are currently 12 daily nonstop flights to Denver from COS.
As the airport continues to grow and expand its services, it remains a vital hub for travelers in Colorado Springs and beyond.
