~ Colorado Springs, CO - As the City's 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings initiative nears its end, the City of Colorado Springs is encouraging residents to attend several public events in the last week of the campaign. With over 800 gatherings already registered, including one in each of the 77 neighborhoods in Colorado Springs, this community-wide campaign aims to combat social isolation and loneliness by promoting connections between neighbors. In addition to attending these events, residents also have the opportunity to host and register their own neighborhood gathering as part of the campaign.
On September 21st, NAMI Colorado Springs will be hosting a clean-up event along the Sand Creek Trail. The Youth Advisory Council invites residents to join them in picking up trash along the trail. The RISE Southeast office will serve as both the starting and ending location for this event and will provide participants with trash grabbers, bags, and gloves. Residents are encouraged to register for this clean-up and are advised to bring sun protection and comfortable walking shoes.
Also on September 21st, Westside Community Center and Organization of Westside Neighbors will be hosting WestFest, a community picnic at Westside Community Center located on W. Bijou St. The event will feature a picnic lunch with brats, hot dogs, coleslaw, and beans available for purchase at $8 per person or $5 for children under 12. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their favorite picnic desserts for a dessert potluck. Live music from Jeremiah Erikson, Donny Coram, and Black Rose Acoustic Society will provide entertainment throughout the day.
