On Tuesday, the Colorado Springs City Council unanimously passed a resolution declaring February as Therapeutic Recreation Month. This resolution serves to highlight the significant impact of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Therapeutic Recreation Program (TRP) and its dedication to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities in the community.
According to Britt Haley, Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, the Therapeutic Recreation Program plays a crucial role in providing individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in meaningful and inclusive activities. These activities not only promote physical health but also emotional and social well-being. In 2024, TRP welcomed over 5,200 participants through more than 130 programs, demonstrating its commitment to inclusivity and personal growth. The program offers a diverse range of activities such as arts, music, culture, sports, fitness, aquatics, outdoor adventures, and more. These programs not only allow individuals with disabilities to engage in experiences of their choice but also help them develop skills necessary for functioning in community settings.
