~ Colorado Springs Airport Receives $8 Million Grant for Concourse Modernization Project

The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) has been awarded $8 million in grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its Concourse Modernization project, ElevateCOS. This grant is part of President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and was awarded through a competitive process known as the Airport Terminal Program (ATP).

The ATP aims to address aging infrastructure, improve terminal capacity, enhance environmental sustainability and accessibility, and encourage competition. COS has previously received funds for the project, which began in September 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2026.

Greg Phillips, Director of Aviation at COS, expressed his gratitude for the FAA's support, stating that "These funds will significantly contribute to enhancing our travelers' experience for many years to come."

The majority of the financial support for this project comes from federal grants, including the ATP and the Airport Improvement Grant (AIG), both of which are FAA-funded awards. The remaining portion of the estimated $38 million project will be funded by Airport reserves, Passenger Facility Charges (PFC), and a grant from Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), without any involvement of taxpayer dollars.

The Concourse Modernization project at COS is a complete remodel of the terminal concourse. This includes upgrades to hold rooms, restrooms, ceilings, windows, elevators, flooring, the Public Address (PA) system, as well as space for new retail and food and beverage options. The modernization will not only increase terminal sustainability but also improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

In addition to increasing passenger capacity, these concourse improvements will also easily accommodate elevated traffic levels. The project also includes planned Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades to provide travelers with disabilities a more equitable airport experience.
