AURORA ~ AURORA - Governor Jared Polis made a special visit to the Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimons today to honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have served their country. The purpose of his visit was to meet with residents and commemorate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.

During his visit, Governor Polis expressed his gratitude on behalf of Colorado for the sacrifices made by veterans in defending the nation's freedoms. He also highlighted the important role that veterans play in their communities, state, and country.

"Colorado is so proud of our military community and the immense contributions Veterans make to our communities, our state and our country," said Governor Polis. He also emphasized that Veterans Day is a time to recognize and appreciate the selfless sacrifices made by veterans in protecting the nation's freedom.

The governor also noted that this year's Veterans Day holds special significance as it aligns with the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. He acknowledged the central role that this branch of the military has played in both Colorado's history and that of the nation.

The Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimons, which is run by the Colorado Department of Human Services, provides skilled nursing care specifically for Colorado's veterans. With approximately 363,000 veterans residing in Colorado, this facility plays a crucial role in caring for those who have served their country.

Governor Polis ended his visit by thanking all current and former members of the Armed Forces for their service and wishing them a happy Veterans Day.
