DENVER ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Jared Polis has appointed William Lindstedt to serve as the new representative for Senate District 25 in the Colorado State Senate. This appointment comes after the unfortunate passing of former Senator Faith Winter and is effective immediately.
Lindstedt was chosen by a Democratic vacancy committee earlier this month to fill the vacant seat. However, there was a delay in the certification process as the Secretary of State did not receive the necessary paperwork within the required thirty-day timeframe.
This is not Governor Polis's first appointment to the state legislature during his time in office. In 2022, he appointed Don Wilson to represent House District 19 after former Representative Tim Geitner resigned and the vacancy committee failed to certify a selection within the allotted time frame.

According to state statute, if a vacancy committee fails to certify a selection within thirty days, it is then up to Governor Polis to make an appointment within five days of the failure. With this appointment, Lindstedt will serve until the first regular session of the General Assembly after the 2026 general election.
Governor Polis expressed his confidence in Lindstedt's abilities and believes he will serve Senate District 25 with dedication and integrity. The new senator has yet to make a statement regarding his appointment but is expected to begin his duties immediately.
