~ As Small Business Saturday approaches, the city of Colorado Springs is showing its support for local businesses by offering free parking in designated areas. From Thursday, Nov. 28 to Saturday, Nov. 30, all City-owned parking garages, lots and meters will be free in the Downtown and Old Colorado City areas.
In an effort to make it easier for shoppers to access these areas, the City will be placing hoods over meters that are free in the downtown area. This includes Tejon Street from Cache La Poudre Street to Rio Grande Street, as well as side streets within one block of Tejon. Additionally, the City-owned parking garages at South Nevada Street/Colorado Avenue, Kiowa Street/Nevada, and Cascade Avenue/Bijou Street will also offer free parking during this time.
In Old Colorado City, all parking meters will be free and surface lots on West Cucharras Street, West Pikes Peak Avenue, and the alley lot off West Colorado Avenue will also be available for free parking.
Richard Mulledy, Public Works Director and overseer of the City's parking enterprise, expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative stating, "We want to encourage residents and visitors alike to visit Downtown Colorado Springs and Old Colorado City to support our wide variety of small businesses during this holiday week." He also acknowledged the collaboration with stakeholders in Old Colorado City and the Downtown Partnership in offering these parking specials in support of Small Business Saturday.

Chelsea Gondeck, Director of Planning & Mobility for the Downtown Partnership echoed Mulledy's sentiments saying, "We're glad to be partnering with the city to support our Downtown businesses on Small Business Saturday, the days leading up to it and all holiday season." She encouraged people to take advantage of this opportunity to explore all that Downtown has to offer.
This promotion is not limited to just Small Business Saturday. Garages and surface lots will continue their free parking promotion on Sundays through the end of the calendar year. Additionally, there have been permanent changes to parking-meter enforcement, with Monday-Saturday enforcement from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday enforcement from 1-8 p.m.
